Grains of Gold – The Port of West Sacramento

The Sacramento area is rich in many ways – agricultural, cultural, historical.

The gold nuggets that were discovered here in 1849 drew adventurers from all corners of the globe, turning Sacramento into the cultural mosaic that it still is today.

Today, the rich melting pot of nationalities in West Sacramento is fed by nuggets of a different kind – rice.

The Port of Sacramento was built in 1946. In 2006, it passed to the City of West Sacramento, and became (for obvious reasons) the “Port of West Sacramento.”
